Future DIY project: Box Pouch

After sewing my purse organizer, I looked for new tutorials to experience some more fun time crafting and `Diying´.

After searching for a new project amongst my favourite DIY blogs, I found that Projects by Jane presents a complete tutorial on how to sew a box pouch, and since I am on an `organizing purse phase´ this could not be more appropriate! So, I can´t wait to start this new DIY project!

I will write about it once finished!

DIY projects: Purse organizer

As many women, one of the problems I usually face is how to find keys, mobile and regular objects I need (or not need...) that tend to get lost in my purse, whatever kind of purse I use, either small or large.
As so, I was endlessly  happy when I discovered this blog post from Fresh Crush.
I immediately decided  to get my hands on it!
And so here begins my recent DIY project, a purse organizer! This is how my organizer looked when finished:

And here´s what I needed for this project:

The steps are really easy to follow, and I hand stitched the purse organizer, however a sewing machine would be a great help and would save time, but I was looking for the traditional and rustic aspect.

I summarized the steps below:

Step 1. Cut the cereal box to a size that will support the objects that you usually have in your purse.
Step 2. Use the cutted box as a template to cut your fabric, you´ll need to cut two pieces of fabric that will be interior and exterior of the organizer.
Step 3. Cut two more strips of fabric to compose the pockets of the organizer.
Step 4. Hem both strips of fabric.

Unfortunately, I just took pictures for the first steps, but the rest is really intuitive. However, you can find the complete tutorial here. I just did a small variation by adding a button/button loop that are really useful by providing more support to the organizer. The button loop can work as an extra inside pocket too, plus the button looks really cute in the organizer...

Step 5. Cut another strip of fabric to make the button loop, and sew it.
Step 6. Measure the pockets by wrapping the objects on it and pinned it on the top of the fabric that will be the exterior of the purse organizer later on.
Step 7. Repeat the same procedure for the lower part of the square piece of fabric.
Step 8. Sew three sides of the exterior and interior of the organizer, wrong side up.Then turn it outside out.
Step 9. Insert the card and sew it closed. with the button loop.
Step 10. Sew the button.
Step 11. Enjoy your purse organizer!!

Here are a few extra pictures from the purse organizer where I also show the button loop used as an extra pocket.

This is so handy, is saving me the time I always took looking for those things that got lost in my purse!

Braids

Braids were fashionable this past seasons, crown braids, fishtail braids, pigtails, braided bangs, ... braided hairstyles are seen everywhere. And the trend continues, since Braid Hairstyles for 2013-14 continue to be extremely popular, as Paris fashion week shown, where braid was the favourite hairstyle for brands as Valentino. Throughout the beauty and fashion magazines celebrities as Rita Ora, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively are clearly following this hair trend.

I have to say that I am following it also.... Braided hairstyle is a practical way to style your hair, and if you are not the type of girl that enjoys to comb and style  your hair throughout the day, braid is definitely for you. You just have to style it before leaving home, and you can forget about your hair style until you get home. Another great advantage about braids, is that you have so many styles that you can wear it for any occasion, from wedding receptions to your work and still be extremely fashionable and look amazing!

For a simple look there are many varied types of braids easy to  do:

1. Simple braid                                                             2. Fishtail braid

 3. Side braid

And if I was able to braid my hair, it was definitely not that hard to do....
For a sophisticated look,  I fashion blog presents an easy to follow tutorial:

I will be definitely trying this hairstyle soon.....

Planning for future DIY: Temporarily hang wallpaper

Some time has past since my last post, I have been busy and so my blog was forgotten for a while. But now, with just a few seconds free in my hands, I have been searching and planning for future DIY projects.
Firstly, I have to say that in the Internet we are able to find a lot of talented crafters and ´diyers`, which makes me feel intimidated when publishing my weakling attempts. But, well, I still love doing it, and if my post are able to help someone it is still worth it.

It is common goal for any householder to feel conformable, and cosy in their own dwellings, and I still feel that my home is far from it. One of my concerns are the naked walls, and since I am renting a place, my main problem is that I am not allowed to either to repaint it or hang wallpaper, which leads to my second problem: I already purchased in a clearance opportunity a wallpaper that I absolutely love and really want to hang (Harlequin Florine, find the pattern below).

So with a ´quick` web search I found that, once more, I am not alone at this. A common thread is ´how to temporarily hang wallpaper`, and in Apartment therapy website presented several solutions, which I completed:

1.     Scroll-like: Do not hang it, just simply attach a part of the roll to the ceiling and roll it onto the floor, in the end we have a nice column effect in the wall.

2.    Apply the wallpaper to a large MDF or light plywood board and lean it to the wall.

3.    Poster hanger: Buy poster hangers and use it on the wallpaper.

4.    Staple gun: Simply staple the wallpaper to the wall.

5.   Bulldog clips:  wallpaper is hunged from molding with clips

6.   Painters marking tape and double-sided tape:

This final solution is the one that I chose, and will apply this next weekend. I will tell you how it went once finished. And why did I chose this one? The scrool-like method is a nice solution, but in my opinion it will only work with certain types of wallpaper, as is the case that Apartment Therapy presented. The feather wallpaper looked beautifully in the wall as a scroll. In my case I have a flowering wallpaper, and using it as a scroll effect would just simple be weird, as I would have an incomplete template.
As for the poster hanger and MDF and Plywood board, I am on a budget, and so I wish to save as much as I can, I am avoiding purchasing other expensive materials.
The staple gun method will leave some traces on the wall, and in the end, I might have to repaint the wall, which is what I can not do. As for the bulldog clips, I don´t know how I feel about having them picking on the ceiling.... If the selected method does not work, I will have to reconsider my position on this.
Lets see how it goes this weekend!
