Baby Mobile tutorial

I have been quite stressed lately…and  nothing works better for me to relax than to begin a DIY project! I was thinking about doing another baby mobile for a while ...!

I never mentioned this before but I am about to become an aunt, and I wanted to offer my little nephew (yes, it’s a baby boy!) something more personal, and as I love to offer handcrafted gifts (especially if I am the one crafting), I thought about making a felt mobile.

I knew that the parents decided to use grey and yellow as main nursery colors so I used similar colors on this mobile. I had a little Pinspiration when deciding what the general look of the mobile would be…

For this project I used felt sheets, fishing line and cotton threads. I hand drew the patterns for the moon, cloud and stars…

After the patterns were created, I cut the felt sheets.

Then, I hand stitched the felt stars, moon and cloud with blanket stitch.  I hand stitched the moon to the cloud using a simple running stitch. After all was stitched, I attached the stars first to each other in columns and then to the moon and cloud, using fishing line.

And here it is the mobile!

The stars look amazing when hanging from the ceiling; they look like little felt constellations of light yellow and grey…

I hope my nephew enjoys his little moon and stars mobile!

What about you? Did you finish any DIY project lately?

Baby and me: 10 Things that babies love that would surprise you!

I am always amazed at the things my baby finds funny. He remembers to do stuff that I would never ever imagined that he would ever think about doing....

1. The Unbearable Lightness of Barefeetness
No matter how cold the floor is, the first thing my baby does when he has some socks on...
Do his best to take those off!

I feel that I am always putting his socks back on...

2. Dirt!
He is surrounded by cute toys, but the thing that catches his full attention is...
The tiniest scrap paper on the carpet.

If I knew this, I would have spared a lot of money on toys...

3. Technology!
Again, he is surrounded by toys. But the fascinating thing is:
.....your remote. Your mobile... your laptop.
Every single piece of technology, fully functional of course, he is not interested in any remote without batteries, or your laptop turned off.

4. Take stuff out of drawers...
           .....and shelves...
                          ......and boxes...
                                   ........mummy´s bag.......
Just take stuff out of somewhere.

I spend the day tiding up after him....

5. Unroll the toilet paper.
 How fun!

Particularly the aftermath, when mummy is re-rolling it all over again!

6. Pull mummy´s earrings.
He loves this particularly my earrings are shiny! Don´t ask me how my ear lobes survive, but yes, they are still intact. There must be something genetic passing through each generation of mothers to increase earlobe surviving skills, because I have no idea how mine are surviving motherhood...

7. Pull mummy´s hair.

Also, he smiles a lot and laughs  at mummy's painful expression when pulling her hair!

8.Doors!
How fun they are! They have thingies on it, you can move it, and open it and close it...! Oh adventure! And what about closing and open doors!? A M A Z I N G

9. Glasses!

 Retrieved on Picjumbo

Oh the fascination with sunglasses.... My baby always tries to remove my sunglasses, and he just laughs when I put my glasses on him!

10. Look up!

  Retrieved on Life of Pix

My Baby loves to see things in the sky, as birds or ceiling as his mobile and lights... See whatever is above him...!

What about you? What does your baby love to do?

Baby and me: What our outings usually entail, and how simpler my mornings used to be before cute baby boy in my life

This is a first instalment of a pre-motherhood and post-motherhood comic series....!
Today I am posting about my mornigs and outings....as my outings are so much different now! And here is a summary of just a few differences....

1.  I used to have time to get prepared before leaving. I used to have time to coordinate my bag with my shoes for heaven sakes! That’s how much time I used to have... And I used to have a wardrobe with clean clothes! With baby in my life it’s not uncommon to raid the laundry in search of a relatively clean t-shirt... I mean what´s wrong with a little spat in the shirt? The scarf will cover it (read more here).

2. Before baby, leaving the house just meant grab keys, mobile, and that was it! Now I have a huge checklist, all to do with baby related items... And not mentioning that baby sometimes just needs a nappy change right before leaving. No matter what the time of the day is....
But the toys, these are really important. Really, you don´t want a bored baby in the bus... At least 3 favourite toys need to be in hand... And may be extendable to your watch. And your mobile. And your scarf. And of course, not forgetting your hands.

3. Oh how simpler it used to be, walk to a bus stop. How you could use your time! Texting, making calls, the possibilities were endless... You could just enjoy the landscape. With baby, I am always doing something. Either clean his nose, or help with the water cup. Or catch toys. At least 124 times on the way there. Or catch the odd sock. Or the baby cup.

4. And then you finally reached your destination. Our outings during the week generally end up in baby’s nursery, and then I go to work. Before it was just work. Now work time has a whole new meaning... Its also when I am just on my own. And not needing to do anything baby related. Its relax time/work time...

But hey! I have the cutest baby in my life! And that makes it all worth it!
How about you, does your baby makes you pick up something 245 times on your walks?
How did you like the series idea? Let me know your thoughts, I would love to hear from you!

Baby and me: The world´s cutest alarm clock!

I read a while back an article comparing life pre and post-parenthood. There’s on characteristic in particular that I miss. Again related with sleeping: the weekends late wake ups or the typical weekend slumber....

You see, I have the cutest alarm clock that works wonders when it’s early morning! I love the way it works for the typical weekday. I mean, it does not allow snoozing, it’s guaranteed that when it’s time for you to wake up, you will definitely wake up...!  So there’s no dozing off, and then realize that you are incredibly late (you may be late, but for other reasons, not the extra sleeping time)!

There’s one catch though. It does not distinguish a weekday from the weekends... And so, everyday around 7am the alarm rings! Time for wakey-wakey!

Yes, my little one is the cutest alarm clock! I just hope that soon enough he learns the notion about weekends! And maybe he does? Because during the weekends he usually gets up earlier...Maybe he knows that during the weekends he has his mummy and daddy all for himself, and so he wants the extra time with us! And well, there goes the extra hour sleep... But its worth it! An extra hour with our little one! We have to treasure this little times, as I have been told over and over again, they go quite fast! In the other hand... oh, slumbering during weekends I do miss it!

And what about you?  Do you have a cute wake up call?
